Tourism in Trumpland: How to sell a tough sell

America is such a politically polarised nation which own consumes the media which agrees with your own preconceived views, that often Americans have a limited perception of what the rest of the world hold of them and especially their President - until they get abroad.

Trump officials also usually only engage with the stations and networks which like Donald Trump and agree with most of his policies. They rarely do live unscripted interviews and especially not at 0630 which is when my show goes out.

So i have to doff my cap at Nick Adams who is the US Special Presidential Envoy for Tourism and who rose very early after a long tour of Europe - selling holidays in America - to join me. He didn’t ask for any questions in advance and the Iran war was the only topic i was to avoid.

As you can see or hear, he defended his viewpoint biut i’m not sure many European listeners will rush out and book their trips to America after hearing it. You be the judge……

According to the World Tourism and Travel Council, the global market for tourism rose by 4% last year in every major market, except one:  the US where numbers fell by 5.5%.    My next guest has been given the not-so-simple task by Donald Trump of attracting 100m visitors to the US every year before 2030.  No mean feat when the public face of America is not very popular worldwide.  His name is Nick Adams and he is the US Special Presidential Envoy for Tourism.
